Believe it or not, spring is coming. (YES!) While it may not be time to bust all of your windows open yet, there are still some things you can check off that spring cleaning list to make the process more manageable.
START A SCHEDULE. If you look on Pinterest or do a Google search, there are numerous spring cleaning checklists available to customize and print. Despite being able to make such checklists your own (and you should for your home!), there are certain activities that almost show up on every list and nearly all of these activities are broken down into a schedule.
Breaking down your spring cleaning schedule, whether by days, zones, rooms, and/or tasks, can help you stay on task and keep the process moving. Trying to tackle an entire home thoroughly in one or two days can be overwhelming. Plus, if you are rushing the process, you may miss already forgotten areas in your home that need some love and attention.
Aside from the online checklist themselves, that may break down cleaning into particular days/zones/etc., it may be prudent to schedule a window washer and carpet cleaner. No doubt their schedules will start filling up as the weather improves and calling ahead of time allows you to plan your cleaning (and rest of your life) around their arrival.
START DECLUTTERING. Whether it is deciding if an item brings you joy or if it is simply functional in your home, you can begin decluttering now. Want an idea as to where to start? Try your closet.
While the past year has made active wear and comfortable clothes more popular, you know that there are shoes, clothes, and other items in your closet that will never reappear once traditional working conditions, social activities, and the like return to normal post-pandemic. Donate the items to your local thrift stores opposed to throwing these items in the trash. It’s the green thing to do.
If you enjoy changing up your home’s decor seasonally, declutter and re-organize as you put items away and pull them out for spring. Doing so will help you identify objects that you really need and those that can join your pile of clothes on their journey to the thrift store.
By initiating the decluttering and organizing process now, you can make your spring cleaning more manageable. Aside from creating more space within your home, you free up your schedule to focus solely on the actual cleaning.
Whether you need something to do during the dog days of winter or if you are ready to prepare for your spring cleaning, there are numerous tasks you can check off to make the entire process easier. By creating a schedule and beginning the decluttering/organizing process now, you’ll have more time to enjoy the spring sunshine and your home.
